What a cruddy day

January 13th, 2010

Haiti was hit by a 7.0 earthquake yesterday.  As if the country didn’t have enough problems.  Please keep the country in your prayers as it deals with a devastating natural disaster.

Work sucked, too, but I can’t talk about it yet.

A new year, a new blog

January 12th, 2010

OK, so I’m a little late starting my blog this year.  It’s been a rough couple of weeks, with a lot of stuff going on.

I’m feeling good about myself physically.  I’ve managed to run for 30 minutes straight, twice this week.  I’m also loving my new Vibram FiveFingers shoes…really comfortable, though I’m not running in them yet.  So far I’m down about 4 pounds since the beginning of the year!

Work’s a different story.  It’s still frustrating being a contractor at the company you used to work for.  Most of the local staff treats me the same, but remote staff have definitely been aloof.  I’m still the same guy, I’m still doing the same job, and I still do my best for the company, but somehow I’m not treated the same.  It’s just another reason why I’m not a big believer in outsourcing/contract work.  It creates a divide between the employer and employee.

In other news, there was a large earthquake in Haiti today.  Nobody can communicate right now, and they suspect that the minimal infrastructure Haiti had to begin with has probably been demolished.  The sad thing is that the news seemed more concerned about the possibility of a tsunami reaching the U.S. than the people dying in Haiti.

That’s all for tonight
